Desorption Behavior of Surfactant Mixtures at the Alumina-Water Interface

The desorption behavior of cationic-nonionic surfactant mixtures, tetradecyltrimethylammonium chloride (TTAC) and pentadecylethoxylated nonyl phenol (NP-15), at the alumina-water interface was studied. It has been found that while nonionic NP-15 itself does not adsorb at alumina-water interface, it will do so with cationic TTAC preadsorbed at the interface. During the desorption process, howeve...

Adsorption Behavior of Surfactant Mixtures at Solid-Liquid Interface

Behavior of surfactant mixtures at solid-liquid interfaces was investigated using anionic-nonionic and catjonic-nonionic surfactants of different structures. The results show that adsorption of nonionic surfactants on alumina was enhanced significantly by the coadsorption of ionic surfactants. The adsorption beha vior of these binary surfactant mixtures was dependent upon the ratio of the two s...

Modeling the effects of binary mixtures on survival in time.

In general, effects of mixtures are difficult to describe, and most of the models in use are descriptive in nature and lack a strong mechanistic basis. The aim of this experiment was to develop a process-based model for the interpretation of mixture toxicity measurements, with effects of binary mixtures on survival as a starting point. The survival of Folsomia candida was monitored daily for 21...

CO Oxidation at the Au − Cu Interface of Bimetallic Nanoclusters

DFT+U calculations of the structure of CeO2(111)-supported Aubased bimetallic nanoclusters (NCs) show that a strong support−metal interaction induces a preferential segregation of the more reactive element to the NC−CeO2 perimeter, generating an interface with the Au component. We studied several Au -based bimetallic NCs (Au-X, X: Ag, Cu, Pd, Pt, Rh, and Ru) and found that (Au− Cu)/CeO2 is opti...
